Acan be tested in many ways either by using the edge connector, testing each device in turn, measuring network signatures or using an in-built Boundary Scan capability if it is fitted – or a mixture of all these!
Achieving full test coverage (finding the maximum number of faults) using a single test method is not practical on the technology in use today and multiple different techniques are required to do this. Having a test capability which can apply different test methods as and when required is essential for delivering accurate and reliable test results.

Test and Fault finding
The PinPoint range provides a benchtop PCB test and fault finding system and is focussed mainly on fixture-less test methods which use a range of test clips or the robust Device Test Interfaces (DTI) to test each device in turn.
The AutoPoint is an ideal complement to the PinPoint range and provides automatic probing of networks using an impedance signature test method.
The S500 provides a functional test of an LRU or PCB from the edge connectors and uses a manually held guided probe to access internal networks of the circuit to determine the cause of a failure.
The S790 is a combinational test system aimed at the precision testing of PCBs either by using in-circuit, functional or combinational test techniques. Automatic diagnostic algorithms determine the most likely cause of a failure to a component, network or functional block level.Read More
Reverse Schematic Engineering
A schematic diagram is essential for the creation of a reliable test program. If no schematic diagram exists then it can be reverse engineered from a physical PCB using the in-built capability of the PinPoint systems. Although this capability exists across the PinPoint range it is often suggested that a specially configured PinPoint is used for larger PCBs in order to facilitate a more cost effective solution.Read More

A range of tools exist to help the programmer create a comprehensive test program.

The FaultFinder VIP is a small portable system which uses network impedance signatures to analyse a PCB. It is a power-off technique which does not require any understanding of the PCBs functionality. It is a useful troubleshooting tool and can also be used for first-line screening.Read More
