Functional testing is designed to rapidly test an LRU so that working units can be quickly identified and returned to operation and faulty LRUs can have the cause of the failure identified.

S500 systems are focussed on the functional test of LRUs or PCBs. Diagnostic testing is achieved by the use of a graphical guided probe to make measurements on internal networks of a circuit. From the result of the probing operations a test program can indicate the cause of a failure.
