LRUs (Line Replaceable Units) and electronic modules or assemblies need to be tested against a set of predetermined test conditions to make sure they work as expected. This functional testing is designed to:

• Rapidly test the LRU so that working units can be quickly identified and returned to operation.
• Quickly identify faulty LRUs and start the fault-finding process by locating the most likely area of the failure to a lower level PCB or CCA or assembly. Having identified the suspect PCB or group of components (ambiguity group) a deeper level of diagnostic testing can be performed either using guided probing or through a separate fault identification system such as the PinPoint

Functional LRU testing is focused around the S500 system, which is a configurable and flexible test platform.
